Disagree

It seems our culture today thrives on disagreement. Scroll through social media or turn on the news and you’ll find passionate people on every side, each convinced that they are right and anyone who disagrees must be wrong. Somewhere along the way, our desire to stand for truth has been replaced by a desire to win arguments.

But truth doesn’t need our temper to defend it — it needs our obedience to live it.

In the church, we have to be careful not to let the world’s spirit of disunity creep into the body of Christ. The early believers were told to be “of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous” (1 Peter 3:8). That doesn’t mean we’ll always agree on every matter — even Paul and Barnabas had a sharp disagreement (Acts 15:36-39) — but it does mean we handle disagreements with humility and love rather than anger and pride.

Jesus said that the world would know we are His disciples “if you have love one for another” (John 13:35). Division in the church doesn’t just hurt our fellowship; it damages our witness.

When we disagree, let’s be sure it’s not about our opinions or preferences, but about standing on the unchanging Word of God. Unity doesn’t come from everyone thinking alike; it comes from everyone anchoring their hearts in the same truth. As Paul urged the Ephesians, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).

Let’s be a people who show the world that love can coexist with conviction, that truth can be spoken in grace, and that disagreement doesn’t have to destroy unity. Because when our hearts are united in Christ, no difference of opinion can divide the body He died to make one. Let us as believers make sure that we don’t get so hung up on being right that we fail to be righteous- and when we do fail as we are bound to do let us be quick to forgive and seek reconciliation.
