Mark 8:22-33 | Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

There’s a question in Mark 8 that still echoes through every generation: “Who do you say Jesus is?”

It came right after Jesus healed a blind man in two stages (Mark 8:22–26). First, the man could see—but only partially. People looked like trees walking around. Then Jesus touched him again, and his sight became clear.

That miracle wasn’t random. It was a living picture of the disciples. They could see Jesus in part, but not fully. They knew He was powerful. They knew He was different. Peter even declared, “You are the Christ” (Mark 8:29). But when Jesus began to explain that the Messiah must suffer, be rejected, die, and rise again, Peter rebuked Him.

They saw the crown—but not the cross.

They wanted the kingdom—but not the sacrifice.

They recognized His title—but not yet His mission.

And if we’re honest, many of us still do the same. We like the parts of Jesus that inspire us, bless us, and strengthen us. We rejoice that He is Savior, King, Provider, and Friend. But do we also see Him as the suffering Servant who calls us to surrender, repentance, and costly discipleship?

Sometimes our vision of Jesus is real—but incomplete. We know enough to believe, but not enough to fully trust. We want resurrection power without crucified living. We want victory without surrender.

The good news is this: Jesus is still opening blind eyes. He is still patient with partial understanding. He is still touching hearts until we see Him clearly.

So today, hear His question personally:

Who do you say Jesus is?

Not who culture says He is.

Not who tradition says He is.

Not who politics says He is.

Who is He to you?

May we see Him clearly:

The Christ.

The Son of God.

The Lamb who was slain.

The risen King.

The only hope of the world.
