Psalm 9:1-20

One of the greatest anchors for the people of God is this truth: our Lord reigns with righteousness, remembers the hurting, and never abandons those who trust in Him. Psalm 9 reminded me again this week just how much confidence believers can walk in—even when the world around us feels unstable.

David begins the Psalm by saying, “I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.” Notice he doesn’t say, “I will praise You when everything makes sense,” or “I will praise You when my life gets easier.” He praises because he remembers. Worship grows when our memory of God’s faithfulness grows. If you’re struggling to worship today, maybe the issue isn’t your circumstances—it may simply be that you’ve forgotten what God has already done.

David then shifts his focus to the character of God:

“But the LORD shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment.”

In a world where rulers come and go, where justice often seems delayed or denied, the believer rests in a God whose throne cannot be shaken. He isn’t swayed by politics or pressure. He judges with righteousness, truth, and equity. And He is a refuge for the oppressed—a shelter for those the world overlooks. You may feel forgotten by people, but you are never forgotten by the Lord who keeps your tears in a bottle (Psalm 56:8).

But the Psalm doesn’t end with praise and rest—it ends with David crying out.

“Have mercy on me, O LORD… Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail.”

This is important: faith does not pretend that trouble doesn’t exist—faith takes that trouble to the only One who can handle it. David brings his pain to the Lord with expectation, knowing that God always turns the plans of the wicked upside down and that the needy “shall not always be forgotten.”

Maybe today you need permission to do the same. Bring the ache. Bring the questions. Bring the tears. Bring the injustice. Bring the discouragement. God invites you to lay it all before Him. The same God who delivered David is still delivering His people today.

So here’s the hope Psalm 9 gives us:

    • God has been faithful in the past.

    • God rules with righteousness in the present.

    • God will arise and make all things right in the future.

This is why believers can live with confidence in a shaky world—our God endures forever.

If life feels heavy today, take heart. Your Judge is righteous, your Refuge is secure, and your God has not forgotten you. Keep trusting. Keep praising. Keep crying out. He will arise.
