The events of last week shook us all. The violence, the grief, the sense of tragedy—it’s natural to feel outrage. But as followers of Christ, we can’t allow our response to end there. Outrage without action becomes a flash in the pan. What the world needs most in times like these is not just louder voices of anger, but brighter lights of truth, grace, and mercy. I will confess that as I have looked around, I have been both extremely encouraged by the response of the church and then extremely discouraged with other responses.
This moment must be a call for revival among God’s people. The storms of life will always come, but Christians are called to react differently—to stand firm in hope when the world trembles, to proclaim biblical truth when confusion reigns, and to extend the mercy of Jesus when hearts are broken. 2 Timothy 1:7 says that we are not given a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control. We can’t get hyper focused on one of those aspects and fail in the other two. If ever there were a time for the Church to shine, it is now.
Let us rise together—not simply to protest evil, but to proclaim the Savior. May the world see in us a people who respond to tragedy with compassion, to violence with peace, and to despair with the unshakable hope of the gospel. When storms rage, let us show we belong to the One who calms the seas.
