The One Who Holds The Throne

This week a moment caught the public eye—President Trump responding to a heckler with a crude gesture. Depending on where you land politically, you may have laughed, cringed, defended it, or condemned it. But beyond the headlines and hot takes, there’s a deeper reminder we all need.
Human leaders—every single one of them—are flawed. They get tired. They get angry. They react instead of respond. Even the strongest, smartest, most confident leaders will eventually reveal their humanity… and their weakness.
The Bible never pretends otherwise.
“Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.” (Psalm 146:3)
Scripture doesn’t say leaders are useless—it says they’re limited. And when we place our ultimate hope in any person, party, or position of power, disappointment is inevitable.
But here’s the good news: our hope does not rise or fall with human leadership.
We have a King who never loses His composure.
A King who never sins in anger.
A King who never embarrasses Himself—or His people.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
Earthly kings may fail in moments. The heavenly King never does.
When mocked, Jesus didn’t retaliate.
When insulted, He remained silent.
When wronged, He chose the cross.
“When He was reviled, He did not revile in return… but continued entrusting Himself to Him who judges justly.” (1 Peter 2:23)
This is not a call to disengage from civic life. It’s a call to re-center our hearts. Vote. Pray. Speak truth. Hold leaders accountable. But never confuse a temporary ruler with the eternal King.
“For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our king; He will save us.” (Isaiah 33:22)
In a loud, divided, reactionary world, may God’s people be marked by calm confidence—not because leaders always do right, but because Jesus always reigns.
Our hope isn’t in who holds office.
Our hope is in the One who holds the throne.
