The Only Hope
Election day brings out so much in our culture today! So many clinging to the ideal
that you must go vote, while others have decided that voting is useless and have given up. Each party promising the moon and stars, while deep down we all know that all earthly government is self-serving in the end, yet we argue and fight about politics like virtually nothing else in this world.
The issue is not whether or not voting is important, in a democracy or representative
democracy voting is important! The issue is that we have begun to act as if our hope for a better country or better tomorrow rests on the backs of politicians. We begin pinning our hopes for that better tomorrow we dream of on the things that are unfortunately hopeless to do what we hope they will. The reality is that the only hope for a better future in our country is in the same place where the hope for our personal future lies- with a Savior who has never failed nor faltered.
The Word of God is plain in the direction for how we see our nation rise from the
place it has fallen to. When the people of God humble themselves and repent and pray-
then and only then will He hear our prayers and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
We have to get to the place where we don’t spend more time on a political campaigns than we do in prayer.
We must get to the place where we acknowledge the responsibility that the people of God have to our nation- the responsibility not to just vote, but to be humbled by the Word of God and repent of our sin. We can't expect the world to vote with us, think like us, agree with us, or even acknowledge our hope because their hope is still in themselves! Let us not spend
our time arguing politics, but instead spend our days sharing the gospel that changes lives.
Let us be a people so passionate about Jesus that we petition his campaign for lost souls
the way we petition for red and blue states. The reality is that ultimately people will fail,
both as voters and as leaders, but the Word of God has not and will not ever fail!
