Today we pause to give thanks for the men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation — those who have stood watch so that others could sleep in peace. Their courage, discipline, and willingness to place others before themselves reflect a principle that runs deep through Scripture: sacrificial love.
Jesus said,
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13
Every veteran, every active-duty service member, and every family who has endured long separations and anxious nights understands this kind of love in a unique way. Their sacrifice mirrors the heart of Christ — selfless, steadfast, and committed to a purpose bigger than themselves.
And behind every soldier, sailor, airman, or marine stands a family who serves in their own way — keeping homes, raising children, and carrying hope through the waiting. To those families: you, too, are heroes of faith and endurance.
As we remember our veterans, let us also remember that freedom is never free. Both our nation’s liberty and our salvation were bought with sacrifice. One with blood shed on battlefields, the other with blood shed on a cross.
So today, we give honor where honor is due — to those who served, and ultimately to the God who calls us to serve others with the same spirit of love, courage, and humility.
“Pay to all what is owed to them… respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” – Romans 13:7
May we live with gratitude not just one day a year, but every day — walking in freedom, serving others, and reflecting the light of Christ in how we love, give, and remember.
