When the Signal Drops

Yesterday, for a brief moment, a lot of our world felt… off.

A temporary Verizon outage left phones quiet , apps frozen , messages undelivered. People panicked. Businesses slowed. Parents worried. Plans stalled.

It was striking how quickly uncertainty set in—not because life stopped, but because our connection did

And it made me think

We live in a world built on signals—Wi-Fi bars, cell towers, notifications, instant access. When those signals fade, even briefly, we’re reminded just how fragile so much of what we rely on really is.

But Scripture reminds us of something far more steady.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Hebrews 13:8

No outage. ❌

No disruption. ❌

No dropped signal. ❌

While networks can fail and systems can go dark, the power of Jesus never flickers. His presence doesn’t depend on infrastructure. His promises don’t buffer. His Word never goes silent.

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Isaiah 40:8

Moments like these expose where our confidence truly rests.

Are we anchored to what is convenient—or to what is constant?

Jesus spoke peace into anxious hearts long before smartphones existed, and He still does today.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you… Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 14:27

When the world feels unstable—even in small, unexpected ways—we’re invited to lift our eyes beyond what can fail and fix our hope on what cannot.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

Psalm 46:1

The signal may drop.

The screen may go dark.

But the light of Christ never dims.

May we use moments like these not to panic—but to remember where our true connection lies.
