Who’s Winning?

As news circulates about a ceasefire in the Iran conflict, the conversations have already begun.

Some are asking, “Did America win?” Others are just as passionately arguing the opposite.

And depending on which side of the political aisle someone stands on, you can find strong opinions in both directions.

But maybe the deeper question is this:

When war leaves behind loss, grief, and broken families… does anyone truly win?

Scripture reminds us of the reality of the world we live in:

“What causes wars and fights among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?” — James 4:1

War is not new. Conflict is not surprising.

It is the natural overflow of a fallen, sin-stained world.

Yes, nations defend. Yes, leaders make decisions. Yes, there are moments where justice must be pursued.

But let’s not lose sight of the weight of it all:

Every war carries a cost that statistics can never fully measure.

    •    Families forever changed

    •    Soldiers who carry scars seen and unseen

    •    Lives lost on all sides

It’s hard to call that “winning.”

“There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.” — Isaiah 48:22

We can negotiate ceasefires.

We can declare strategic victories.

We can debate outcomes.

But lasting peace will never be brokered at a negotiating table—it is only found in a Savior.

Jesus Himself said:

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars… For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” — Matthew 24:6–7

This shouldn’t lead us to fear…

It should lead us to perspective.

War reminds us that this world is not our final home.

And while the world argues over who won the latest conflict, believers are reminded of the only victory that truly matters:

“These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them… for He is Lord of lords and King of kings.” — Revelation 17:14

That is the victory we anchor ourselves in.

Until that day, we don’t celebrate war—we pray through it.

    •    Pray for wisdom for leaders (1 Timothy 2:1–2)

    •    Pray for protection over soldiers and their families

    •    Pray for peace where there is turmoil

    •    Pray for hearts—on every side—to be drawn to Christ

Because in a world marked by conflict…

Peace isn’t found in who wins the war.

Peace is found in knowing the Prince of Peace.

“For He Himself is our peace…” — Ephesians 2:14
